Common Admission Test CAT 2021

The Indian Institutes of Management IIM will conduct a computer- based Common Admission Test 2021 (CAT 2021) on November 28, 2021 in three sessions. Detailed information on CAT 2021 may be obtained from the CAT website. CAT website: www.iimcat.ac.in CAT 2021 is a prerequisite for admission to various Post Graduate and Fellow/Doctorate programmes of IIMs. CAT 2021 scores are allowed to be used by listed non-IIM member institutions. A list of such institutions is provided on the CAT website. IIMs have no role in the selection process of non-IIM institutions.

CAT Exam 2021: Eligibility

  1. Candidate must hold a Bachelors’s degree with 50% marks awarded from any Educational Insitute or University.
  2. The percentage of marks will be calculated based on the way it has been practiced in the respective institute.
  3. Candidates who are in their final year of their Bachelor’s degree can also sit for the examination. 
  4. Candidates who are waiting for their final results can also apply for the examination. However, these candidates can join the institutes only when they submit documents about the completion of their course.

Please refer to the detailed notification on the CAT website. Applicants should note that mere fulfillments of the minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs.

RESERVATIONS

Refer to the CAT website for information regarding reservation of seats for various categories of applicants. No change in the category will be entertained after CAT registration. The applicants are advised to pay attention while registering.

REGISTRATION FEES FOR CAT 2021

₹1100 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates. ₹2200 for all other categories of candidates. Please note that a candidate needs to pay the registration fees only once, irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying for. Fees once paid cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

 

TEST CENTRES CAT

Test Centres Cat will be conducted in test centres spread across around 158 test cities. Candidates will be given the option to select any six test cities in order of their preference.

According to CAT Centre 2021, the following are the important announcements to the candidates appearing for CAT 2021:

Registration Deadline: Registration for CAT 2021 opens on Wednesday, August 04 at 10.00 am and closes on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 5.00 pm.

The CAT convenor urges the test takers to register well in advance to have a hassle-free registration process and to avoid last-minute rush.

CAT 2021 will be conducted in 158 cities. Candidates will be given the option to choose six optional cities. CAT Centre will try its best to ensure that a candidate gets one of the preferred options. In case of high demand in a particular region, CAT Centre reserves the right to allot a centre close to the any of the preferred options. Once a centre is allotted to a candidate, no change is permitted.

Registration Form Edit Window: After the closure of the registration window, candidates will be able to edit the following fields in the application form (if required).

1. Photograph

2. Signature

3. Test City Preferences.

After the closure of the registration window, a very short edit window will be made available to the registered applicants. This option will be valid only for those candidates who have paid the applicable registration fee and have registered successfully for CAT 2021 within the specified deadline.

When is the date of registration for cat 2021?

CAT 2021 will be conducted on November 28, 2021 (Sunday) in three sessions.

The duration of the test will be 120 minutes. There will be three sections:

Section I: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension 

Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning 

Section III: Quantitative Ability

Candidates will be allotted exactly 40 minutes for answering questions in each section and they will not be allowed to switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.

Tutorials to understand the format of the test will be available on the CAT website. Candidates are advised to work on the tutorials available on the CAT website well in advance.

COVID and Possible Disruptions: Prof M P Ram Mohan, Convenor of CAT 2021 says that the preparations and the conduct of the exam is being done with continued COVID-19 uncertainty. The information provided by the CAT website is contingent upon the decisions and directions issued from time to time by the Central & State governments, and IIMs. Candidates are advised to regularly check the CAT website for the latest information.

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2021 Eligibility :

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PwD) categories], awarded by any University or educational institution as incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State legislature in India or declared to be deemed as an University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognised by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of issue of the certificate.

Candidates Applying for CAT 2021 should fulfill any one of the following conditions:

● Completed Bachelor’s degree with the required percentage of marks.

● Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA/Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) with required percentage.

● Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage.

SC/ST/PwD candidates should have a minimum 45%. For General, EWS and NC-OBC candidates, the minimum is 50%.

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate would be calculated based on the practice as followed by the respective University/Institution. In case of grades/CGPA, the conversion to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure as certified by the respective University/Institution. If any University/Institution confirms that there is no scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and multiplying the result with 100.

IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the website www.iimcat.ac.in. Reservation for CAT 2021

As per the legal requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. 27% of the seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer (NC-OBC). Up to 10% of the seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates.

For the purpose of being considered for reservations, the applicable Central Government list as on the last date of CAT registration shall be binding. As per the provisions of The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016), 5% seats are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD). “Person with Benchmark Disability” means a person with not less than forty percent (40%) of a specified disability where a specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes a person with disability where the specified disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authority. “Specified disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016. The categories of disability are:

a) Blindness and low vision

b) Deaf and hard of hearing

c) Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy. d) Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness

e) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d) f) Other ‘specified disabilities’ mentioned in ‘The Schedule’ of the RPwD Act 2016

The candidates belonging to the reserved categories need to note the eligibility requirements carefully before applying. It should be noted that while it is the endeavor of IIMs that the candidates belonging to SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD categories join the Programme in proportions mandated by the law, they have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria and a certain minimum level of performance to be considered for the admission process.

The candidates should read the updated description of the selection process followed by each IIM on their respective websites. No change in the category will be entertained after CAT registration. The applicants are advised to pay attention while registering.

Additional Information for SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS and PwD

If a candidate belongs to the SC or ST categories, the respective caste/tribe must be listed in the Government of India schedule. The caste certificate that the candidate submits to IIM should be in the Government of India approved format and should clearly state: (a) Name of the caste/tribe; (b) Whether the candidate belongs to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe; (c) District and State or Union Territory of the candidate’s ordinary residence; and (d) the appropriate Government of India schedule under which the candidate’s caste/tribe is approved by it as Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.

A copy of the SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD certificate(s) must be uploaded at the time of the CAT application registration. Failure to upload a copy of the caste/class certificate will result in the rejection of a candidate’s CAT registration.

The SC/ST/NC-OBC/EWS/PwD certificate(s) must be shown and a photocopy should be submitted at the time of interviews. Moreover, the certificate(s) must be submitted at the time of joining the programmes of any of the IIMs. Failure to do so during the post CAT selection process will result in the candidate not being considered under the reserved category.

CAT 2021 RESULTS AND SHORTLISTING

Information related to the CAT 2021 results will be tentatively available starting from the second week of January 2022 on this website. The list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection will be made available on the website of the respective IIMs. Each IIM will send interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly. The criteria for shortlisting vary across IIMs. Please visit the admission websites of the respective IIMs for further information.

ADMISSION PROCESS FOR CAT 2021

Please note that IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in the CAT 2021 examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. For more information, refer to the admissions policies of individual IIMs on their respective websites.

ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION FOR CAT 2021

If a candidate is shortlisted for interview by any IIM, he/she must comply with the following eligibility verification: Mark Sheets and Degree Certificate A candidate must show all the mark sheets and submit attested copies to prove his/her eligibility at the time of interview. Further, if a candidate is selected for a programme, the original degree certificate and mark sheets of all semesters/years along with their attested copies must be submitted for verification at the time of joining the programme.

CAT Reservation Category Requirements – If shortlisted for an interview, SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS and PwD candidates must show the original caste/class and/or disability certificate and submit a photocopy at the time of the interview along with the submission requirements as specified in the “Marksheets and Degree Certificate” section.

Candidates in the Final Year of Graduation – If shortlisted for an interview, candidates appearing for the final bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification examination must show an original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the University/Institution certifying that the candidate has obtained 50% marks or equivalent (45% in case of candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PwD category) based on the latest available grades/marks. He/she must submit an attested copy of the original certificate at the time of the interview.

For the Post Graduate Programmes of IIMs, such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme PROVISIONALLY, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements (the results may, however, be awaited) for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the original mark sheet and qualifying degree certificate of having passed the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by the Principal/Registrar of their University/Institution. They must obtain at least 50% marks or equivalent (45% in the case of candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD category). They must also submit an attested copy of the mark sheets and qualifying degree certificate.

The deadline for submission of the qualifying degree/equivalent mark sheet and certificate is December 31, 2022. NON FULFILLMENT OF THIS CONDITION WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF THE PROVISIONAL ADMISSION. Provisional admission will also be cancelled if subsequently it is found that the submitted certificate is incorrect.
