There is good news for the students preparing for the recruitment of Assistant Professor posts in universities. In fact, the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted that a PhD is not mandatory for recruitment to the posts of assistant professor in universities and colleges.
For this now only qualification in UGC National Eligibility Test i.e. UGC NET will be considered sufficient.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman said that a nation-one data portal is being developed, which will include all UGC guidelines and other details.
Further, he said that along with academics in the traditional mode, the aim is to deliver quality education directly to the students through the National Digital University from the next academic year.
Recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced new rules regarding PhD. Under the new rules, candidates will be given a maximum of six years from the date of admission for a PhD. Interested students were told to give a maximum of two years more time through re-registration.
Ban on distance learning
Under the new rule, PhD has been banned from online or distance learning. Earlier, before submitting the thesis, the research scholar had to publish at least two research papers.
Now it has been exempted from the new rules of PhD. Apart from this, the compulsion to publish two research papers during the research process has also been done away with.
