CBSE has issued guidelines for conducting Class 12 practical examinations under the Supplementary Examination 2026.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued detailed guidelines for conducting Class 12 Practical Examinations under the Supplementary Examination 2026. The Board has notified schools, examination centres and Regional Offices about the procedures they must follow while conducting the practical examinations. According to the circular, the practical examinations will take place from 29 July to 4 August 2026.
The guidelines cover students who have been placed in the compartment category under Repeat in Practical (RP) and Repeat in Theory and Practical Both (RB). Students falling under the RP category will take only the practical examination because their theory marks from the previous examination will remain valid.
Students placed under the RB category must appear in both the theory and practical examinations during the Supplementary Examination 2026.
CBSE has decided that regular students will complete their practical examinations in their own schools. Private candidates will appear at the examination centres allotted for their theory papers. If a centre does not have the required facilities for a particular practical subject, the concerned Regional Office may arrange the examination at another nearby school or examination centre.
Students have been instructed to contact their respective school or examination centre on or before 27 July 2026. They must carry a copy of their result or mark sheet along with their admit card. Schools and examination centres will inform students about the schedule of the practical examination, and students must appear at the assigned venue accordingly.
The Board has assigned the responsibility of appointing External Examiners to its Regional Offices. Schools and Centre Superintendents will nominate Internal Examiners from among their own teachers.
CBSE has also directed schools to conduct the practical examinations only with the practical answer books supplied by the Regional Offices and ensure that all required entries are completed correctly.
The circular also outlines the responsibilities of schools and examination centres. They must prepare a subject-wise list of eligible students, coordinate with the Regional Office for the appointment of External Examiners wherever required, finalise the practical examination schedule by considering the availability of External Examiners and the Supplementary Examination datesheet, and inform students about the examination schedule in advance. The Board has clearly instructed that schools must not appoint External Examiners on their own.
Regional Offices have been asked to prepare centre-wise and subject-wise lists of eligible students, appoint External Examiners wherever necessary, monitor the timely conduct of practical examinations, ensure the upload of practical marks on the portal, and receive the practical answer books after the examinations are completed.

CBSE has also directed schools and examination centres to upload the practical marks awarded to students on the same day the examination is conducted. The Board has clarified that once the marks are uploaded on the portal, they will be treated as final and no request for any change will be accepted.
