International Yoga Day was first proposed in the 69th UN General Assembly Meeting by India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2014. Prime Minister Modi advocated for a special day devoted to this ancient practice, emphasizing its potential to promote holistic health.
Subsequently, in a remarkable display of universal accord, all 193 United Nations member states adopted his proposal unanimously. As a result, the 21st of June was marked as the International Day of Yoga, with the first-ever celebration taking place on the 21st of June in 2015.
