The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi had called for celebrating Yoga Day across the world on 27 September 2014 in the Joint General Assembly. The United Nations General Assembly accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal.
Within just three months, the organization of International Yoga Day was announced. The very next year in 2015, World Yoga Day was celebrated for the first time across the world.
