Preschool Curriculum India: In the last decade, there has been an accumulation of research evidence from a number of disciplines, that investment in early childhood education significantly improves a child’s health, learning ability, future earnings, and life expectancy.
Early exposure to learning and the development of healthy habits lay down a strong foundation for holistic education and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.
Based on the findings of the research, theories of child development, and initiatives of the government, NCERT has developed “NCERT The Preschool Curriculum” with inputs from subject experts, academicians, teachers, and teacher educators.
The Preschool Curriculum has been designed for three years of preschool before Class I. which highlights the significance of early years, the definition, vision, aim, and objectives of preschool education.
Key concepts and skills to be developed in children, pedagogical processes to be used by the teachers, and early learning outcomes for Preschool I, II, and III are also defined in ways that are compatible with the natural learning and behavior of young children in this age group.
The Preschool Curriculum fulfills a long-standing need for a preschool curriculum that is holistic, and joyful and aims at maximizing an individual’s potential leading to strong foundations for lifelong learning. It also intends to develop socio-emotional qualities, a healthy attitude, and skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
The Preschool Curriculum is designed in a progressive manner for three years of preschool education before Class I, for children between the age of 3–6 years.
