What are National Awards to Teachers 2023?

The National Awards to Teachers 2023 (Rashtriya Shikshak Puruskar 2023) are designed to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional contributions of select outstanding educators across the nation.

National Teacher Awards 2023 pays tribute to those devoted teachers who, through their steadfast dedication and professional efforts, have not only elevated the standard of school education but have also profoundly touched and enriched the lives of their students.

Conditions of National Teacher Awards 2023 Eligibility of Teachers

School teachers and Heads of Schools working in recognized primary/middle/high / higher secondary schools under the following categories:

Schools run by State Govt./UTs Administration, schools run by local bodies, schools aided by State Govt. and UT Administration and Private schools affiliated to State/UTs Board.

Central Govt. Schools i.e. Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Sainik Schools run by Ministry of Defence (MoD), Schools run by Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) run by Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) (other than those at (a) and (b) above)

Schools affiliated with Council for Indian Schools Certificate Examination (CISCE) (Other than those at (a), (b) and (c) above)

Normally retired teachers are not eligible for the award but those teachers who have served a part of the calendar year (at least for four months i.e. up to 30th April in the year to which National Awards relate) may be considered if they fulfill all other conditions.

Educational Administrators, Inspectors of Education, and the staff of training Institutes are not eligible for these awards.

The teacher / Headmaster should not have indulged in tuition.

Only regular Teachers and Heads of Schools with a minimum of ten years of service are eligible.

Contractual Teachers and Shiksha Mitras will not be eligible.

Timeline for National Awards To Teachers 2023

23rd June to 15th July 2023

Opening of a web portal for inviting online applications and self-nomination for the National Teacher Award by teachers

16th July to 25th July 2023

District / Regional Selection Committee nominations are to be forwarded to the State / Organization Selection Committee through the online portal

26th July to 3rd August 2023

State Selection Committee / Organization Selection Committee shortlist to be forwarded to Independent National Jury

4th & 5th August 2023

Intimation to be issued by the Ministry of Education to all the shortlisted for National Teacher Award candidates to make presentations before the National Jury (either in physical mode at NCERT like in normal years or online like in 2021 depending on the Covid situation) (maximum 154 candidates as per extent guidelines)

7th August to 14th August 2023

How to Apply for National Award for Teachers 2023 Online?

Procedure For National Award for Teachers Application And Selection:

  • All the applications for NAT 2023 would be received through an online web portal.
  • Visit the Official Website of National Awards to Teachers.
  • MOE would ensure coordination with States/UTs regarding timely entry into the portal and resolution of technical and operational issues during data entry into a portal through the portal development agency.
  • MOE will bear the entire expenditure for the development and maintenance of the portal.
  • In the case of State/UTs, teachers and heads of schools themselves shall apply directly by filling out the application form online through the web portal before the prescribed cut-off date.
  • Every applicant shall submit a portfolio, online along with the Entry Form. The portfolio shall include relevant supporting material such as documents, tools, reports of activities, field visits, photographs, audio or videos etc.
  • Undertaking by the applicant: Each applicant shall give an undertaking that all the information/data submitted is true to the best of his/her knowledge and if anything is found at any later date to be untrue then he/she will be liable to disciplinary action.

Considerations To Guide The Selection Of Teachers At Various Levels:

Teachers will be evaluated based on the evaluation matrix given in Annexure-I. The evaluation matrix contains two types of criteria for evaluation:

In this system, teachers will receive scores corresponding to each of the defined objective criteria. These criteria carry a weightage of 20 out of a possible 100 points.

Furthermore, teachers will be evaluated and marked based on their performance in several areas, such as their initiatives to enhance learning outcomes,

  • The innovative experiments they have implemented.
  • Their organization of additional and co-curricular activities.
  • The application of Teaching Learning Material.
  • Their efforts in promoting social mobility.
  • Their dedication to ensuring experiential learning.
  • Their unique methods of providing physical education to students.

The evaluation based on these criteria contributes to the remaining 80 points of the total 100-point scale.

FAQs: National Award for Teachers 2023

Who Are Not Eligible For The National Teachers Award?

Retired teachers who have not served at least a part of the calendar year – at least for four months i.e. up to 30th April in the year to which National Award relates.

Teacher/Headmasters who have indulged in tuitions. Contractual Teachers and Shiksha Mitras are also not eligible.
