This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote mental health and well-being among students, which aligns with the goals set forth by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The upcoming Counselors’ Conclave, titled “Care, Compassion & Communication,” will focus on Shaping the Landscape of Well-Being in Schools.

This blog will provide complete details about the official circular, highlighting the importance of this Conclave for school counselors and other educational stakeholders. We encourage all educators and counselors to read and share this important information.

Why Is Mental Health Support in Schools Important?

Children and adolescents are valuable assets to any nation, and their holistic growth requires continuous emotional and behavioral support. Research shows that mental health support in schools not only improves academic performance but also helps students lead healthier lives.

School counselors play a key role in creating a positive school environment, which is essential for the overall development and well-being of students.

What Is CBSE Doing to Promote Professional Development?

To strengthen the capabilities of school leaders, wellness teachers, and counselors, CBSE has been organizing a series of one-day Capacity Building Programs across multiple cities, including Lucknow, Delhi, Gurugram, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Guwahati.

These programs, which run from July to September 2024, follow a Hub and Spoke model. CBSE’s Lead Collaborator Schools have provided support for these programs, which are aligned with the NEP 2020 recommendations.

What Is the Focus of the CBSE Counselors’ Conclave?

Expanding on the Capacity Building Programs, CBSE is now organizing Counselors’ Conclaves. These conclaves are designed to upgrade the skills of school counselors so that they can better meet students’ psychosocial and career needs. The conclaves aim to transform how well-being is addressed in schools, encouraging a holistic approach to student support.

The first virtual Conclave in this series will take place as follows:

What Will the Conclave Cover?

The Conclave will focus on enhancing school counselors’ ability to support the emotional and behavioral needs of children and adolescents. It aims to develop their skills through ongoing training, resources, and exposure to best practices in mental health support.

By fostering a positive school climate, the Conclave will help counselors create environments that nurture students’ well-being. This aligns with the NEP 2020 framework, which emphasizes the importance of mental health in education.

Why Should Counselors and Educators Attend?

The Conclave provides a platform for counselors to connect, share experiences, and collaborate on strategies to address psychosocial challenges in schools. It also raises awareness about the critical role mental health support plays in creating a healthier and more supportive educational environment.

The Conclave underscores the need for mindful parenting, effective communication, and the development of stronger child-adult relationships within schools.

How to Register for the Virtual Conclave?

CBSE encourages all Principals and Heads of affiliated schools to promote maximum online participation from their school counselors, teachers, and wellness teachers. Participation is limited to 1,000 counselors/wellness teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools, based on a first-come, first-served basis.

For those unable to attend the live session, a recording of the Conclave will be made available on CBSE’s official YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/@cbsehq1905.
