World Tsunami Awareness Day is celebrated on Saturday, 5 November Every Year.

World Tsunami Awareness Day 2022: World Tsunami Awareness Day is celebrated every year on 5 November (5 November). In 2004, an earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a tsunami that affected about half a million people in about 15 countries. Tsunamis are a global problem and thus international cooperation is of utmost importance for better knowledge and recognition of the adoption of risk mitigation measures.

When was the first world tsunami awareness day Celebrated? 

The first World Tsunami Awareness Day was celebrated all over the world on 05 November 2016. The theme of the first World Tsunami Awareness Day of 2016 was Effective education and evacuation drill. This awareness day was organized in New Delhi in collaboration with the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction 2016 and the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi.

What is the origin of the word ‘tsunami’?

World Tsunami Awareness Day is celebrated since the initiative of Japan. The word “tsunami” is derived from the Japanese word. Composed of “tsu” (port) and “nami” (wave). According to the UN website, an estimated 50 percent of the world’s population will live in coastal areas exposed to floods, hurricanes, and tsunamis. Increasing international cooperation for developing countries will help ensure that 100 percent of tsunami-risk communities are tsunami prepared by 2030.

What is the importance of this world tsunami awareness day?

The United Nations calls on countries and international bodies to celebrate the day to raise awareness and share innovative approaches to risk mitigation. By the end of 2030, about 50 percent of the world population living in coastal areas will be exposed to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods.

What is the Date and Theme of World Tsunami Awareness Day 2022?

In 2022 the date of World Tsunami Awareness Day is Saturday, 5 November 2022. Every year, World Tsunami Awareness Day is observed under a theme. Reportedly, ‘Awareness About Tsunami Early-Warning Systems’ is the theme of World Tsunami Awareness Day 2022.

The objective of World Tsunami Awareness Day

The main objective of World Tsunami Awareness Day was to raise awareness about tsunami among millions of people living in coastal areas and small islands. Loss of life and property can be saved with an early warning system, flexible infrastructure, and knowledge of the people.
