CBSE Circular: As you are aware, the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 envisages transformative change across all levels of education in India, through active involvement of the community as well as the private sector in the attainment of its goals and objectives.
The Vidyanjali initiative is launched with an aim to strengthen the schools through community, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and private sector involvement across the country.
What is Vidyanjali School Program?
Meaning of Vidyanajali: Vidyanjali is an amalgamation of the words Vidya meaning “correct knowledge” or “clarity” and Anjali meaning “an offering with both hands” in the Sanskrit language.
Indian government started a Vidyanjali program to help improve schools in India. The Vidyanjali program connects schools with volunteers from different parts of India who want to help society.
These Vidyanjali volunteers can be young professionals, retired teachers, retired government officials, retired professionals, NGOs, private companies, corporate institutions, and others.
Vidyanjali: Connecting Citizens with Schools to Bridge the Education Gap
Vidyanjali is implemented through the portal (https://vidyanjali.education.gov.in) hosted by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, where any citizen of India/ PIO/ Organization registered in India, can directly connect with Government and Government-aided schools, and contribute in the form of Services/ Activities/ Assets/ Material/ Equipment etc.
What is the aim of Vidyanjali Yojana?
The aim of Vidyanjali is to act as a facilitator by connecting contributors directly to the school. The effort is to bridge the knowledge/ skill/ human resources gap in the schools by tapping the potential available outside the Government.
Vidyanjali’s Mentor/Mentee Initiative: Strengthening Academic Support through School Twinning
Further, the Department of School Education & Literacy has introduced a mentor/ mentee initiative also known as the twining of school under Vidyanjali Yojana.
Vidyanjali initiative enables the schools to be a mentor or mentees (based on the school’s choice) of other schools by contributing through hand-holding in academic and assets/ material/ equipment-related activities.
Since the initiative is based on activities, therefore, engagement of the school under the initiative can be short or long-term. The date and timing of the activity may be agreed upon between the participating schools, as it is purely voluntary in nature.
