As you may already know, the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India will observe Swachhata Pakhwada from September 1st to 15th, 2023. For impactful participation leading to enhanced cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene activities in schools involving students, teachers, and the community, schools are advised to carry out the following revised activities from September 1st to 15th, 2023:

Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 Activities

1. Swachhata Pledge ceremonies should be organized where all students, teachers, and staff may take an oath during the school assembly.

2. Conduct meetings (in small groups) involving SMCs/PTAs or parents and teachers in the initial week of the Pakhwada to stress the significance of cleanliness, sanitation, and frequent handwashing.

3. Teachers can inspect the water and sanitation facilities in the school, carry out a swift evaluation of the water-sanitation-hygiene facilities, and formulate proposals/plans for their maintenance, if needed.

4. Events like Essay/Slogan/Poem Writing, Painting, and Quizzes can be organized to educate students about cleanliness and hygienic practices.

5. Swachhata-related awareness messages should be featured on the school’s website.

Additional Swachta Activities for Teachers and Administration:

1. Removal of all types of waste materials such as sanitation waste, used and discarded masks, broken furniture, and obsolete equipment should be done in compliance with procedures.

2. Single-use plastics should be prohibited within the school grounds. Educate about the elimination of Single Use Plastic and alleviating plastic pollution while adhering to the 3 R (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) principle.

3. Teachers and students are advised to disseminate the theme of Pakhwada among family members, neighbors, and residents in the vicinity.

4. Routine sanitization and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces should be carried out.
