About Competition

In recognition of the damaging impacts of Ozone Layer depletion, including skin cancer, eye cataracts, and weakened immune systems, the global community signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987.

This international treaty was aimed at phasing out the production and consumption of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs). Since its inception, the protocol has successfully phased out multiple ODSs, placing the Ozone Layer on the path to recovery.

Following the protocol, the General Assembly of the United Nations designated 16 September as World Ozone Day in December 1994. The day celebrates global efforts to protect the ozone layer, creating awareness of this crucial environmental matter, especially among the students.
