NCTE has launched Integrated Teacher Education Program

The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has launched Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) in 57 Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) across the country from the academic session 2023-24. It is a flagship program of NCTE under NEP 2020.

ITEP, which was notified on 26 October 2021, is a 4-year dual-composite undergraduate degree leading to B.A. B.Ed./ B.Sc B.Ed. / and B.Com B.Ed. Offers courses.

The new school structure will prepare teachers for 4 stages ie Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary (5+3+3+4). The program is initially being run in a pilot mode in reputed Central/State Government Universities/Institutes.

4 Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) launched in 57 reputed Central/State Government Universities/Institutions from academic session 2023-24.

ITEP will be available to all students who choose teaching as their career of choice after secondary. This integrated course will benefit the students by saving one year as they can pursue the existing B.Ed. Will complete the course in 4 years instead of 5 years required for the scheme.

For this, admission will be done through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

ITEP will not only provide state-of-the-art education but also lay the foundation for early childhood care and education (ECCE), foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education and understanding of India and its values/ethos/art/traditions and other subjects .

The Integrated Teacher Education Program course will contribute significantly to the revitalization of the entire teacher education sector.

Through a multidisciplinary environment based on Indian values and traditions, the prospective teachers passing out from this course will be exposed to the requirements of global standards of the 21st century and thus, play a leading role in shaping the future of New India.
