Delhi’s Education Director Himanshu Gupta Appointed CBSE Secretary, to Remain in the Post for Four Years

Himanshu Gupta IAS, from the 2012 AGMUT batch, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. This appointment is for a four-year term starting from the date he assumes his new role and is positioned under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, at the Deputy Secretary level.

IAS Himanshu Gupta Appointed As a CBSE Secretary

Himanshu Gupta, a 2012 batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre, currently in the position of Education Director for the Delhi government, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of the Government of India issued an order on November 30, directing him to immediately assume charge of the post. IAS Himanshu Gupta’s tenure in this role will span four years.

IAS Himanshu Gupta is a graduate of IIT Delhi and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Gupta has served in various capacities in the Delhi government, including as the Director of the Department of Education.

Official Orders Mentioned that “The Competent Authority has approved the appointment of Shri Himanshu Gupta, IAS (AGMUT:2012) for the post of Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBS), New Delhi under the D/o School Education and Literacy, M/o Education at Deputy Secretary level for a period of 4 years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment.

2. It may be noted that as per ACC’s directions conveyed in DoPT’s Circular No. 3/4/2004 EO(MM-1) dated 17th August, 2005, an officer should join the post within three weeks from the date of issue of DOPTs appointment order, failing which the process of debarment shall be initiated.

In his previous role as Education Director, Mr. Gupta spearheaded the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to transform the education system in India. IAS Gupta also played a key role in the expansion of the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) and the improvement of the infrastructure of government schools.

IAS Himanshu Gupta is a highly qualified and experienced educationist. His appointment as CBSE Secretary is a welcome development. His expertise is anticipated to be instrumental in the implementation of the NEP 2020 and the improvement of the quality of education in CBSE schools.
