Details of Government Scholarship Schemes for students

1. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS)

This scholarship is for college and university students. Such students have passed class 12th and are pursuing higher education in a college or university. Meritorious students coming from economically weaker section can get the benefit of this scholarship.

Every year the Ministry of Education gives 82 thousand new scholarships under this scheme. Under this, scholarships ranging from 10 thousand to 20 thousand rupees are given annually. Applications are invited for this from August to October. The application has to be made online through the National Scholarship Portal.

Who will get the benefit – Such students who have scored 80 percentile or more in 12th, are doing full time course, family income does not exceed 8 lakh rupees.

2. National Means cum Merit Scholarship

Meritorious students coming from economically weaker sections can take advantage of this after 8th class. Every year one lakh students across the country are given this scholarship. 12,000 per student per annum. Applications are invited for this between August to October. One has to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Who will get the benefit – For this, at least 55 percent marks should be obtained in 8th. For this it is also necessary to appear in the selection test. To appear in the selection test, it is mandatory to have at least 55% marks in class 7th. The family income should not exceed Rs 1.50 lakh per annum.

3. AICTE Pragati Scholarship

This scholarship is only for girl students. Maximum two girls in a family can get the benefit of this scholarship. Every year 5000 such scholarships are given by the government. Under this, the beneficiary gets Rs 50,000 annually and other facilities.

Applications are invited for this from September to October. One has to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal.

Who will get the benefit – Such girl students who are studying in first or second year in any technical degree or diploma course. Whose admission in that course has been done through lateral entry on the basis of 12th marks. Annual family income of Rs.8 lakh or less.

4. AICTE Saksham Scholarship

This scholarship scheme is being run to promote technical education among specially abled students. Its benefit is available to those students who are specially abled and are studying any technical degree or diploma course. Under this, every beneficiary is given an annual scholarship of Rs 50,000 and other facilities. Applications are invited between September-October. One has to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal.

Who will get the benefit – Students who have at least 40 percent disability, have got admission in the first year through lateral entry in a degree or diploma course in an AICTE affiliated institution, family income of Rs 8 lakh or less per annum.

5. Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)

This fellowship is given to promote research in the students. Students enrolling in a PhD program in an institution eligible for PMRF grants get this benefit. However, it is also necessary for the student to obtain other qualifications as per the guidelines of this fellowship. Under this, a stipend of Rs 80 thousand per month is given.
