Ganesh Chaturthi on September 19, 2023

Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 stands as a prominent Hindu celebration in honor of Lord Ganesha. Enthusiastically celebrated nationwide, this special day is deemed propitious for paying special honour to Shri Ganesha.

Ganeshotsav festival is slated for September 19, 2023, this year. Spanning from Chaturthi Tithi to Ananta Chaturdashi, it’s referred to as Ganeshotsav. People venerate Lord Ganesha as the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and good luck.

Lord Shiva, Ganesha’s father, often appears with his Ganas. These Ganas are close friends and aides who live on Mount Kailash. Hence, the name ‘Ganesha’ or ‘Ganapati’ signifies the chief of the Ganas.

People believe that Lord Ganesha emerged on the Chaturthi (fourth day) of Shukla Paksha (moon’s waxing phase) during the Bhadrapada month in the Hindu calendar, which falls between August and September. This special day goes by the name of Ganesha Chaturthi.

Every year, on this day, worshippers bring Ganesha idols to their homes and offer prayers for 1, 3, or 10 days, following their familial or regional customs. In Maharashtra, this festival spans 10 days. This year, Ganesha Chaturthi will be observed on Tuesday, 19 September.

Many revere this god of fresh starts with varied names that highlight his qualities. Some popular names include Vigneshwara, Vinayaka, Gajanana, Balachandra, Omkara, Lambodara, and Heramba.
