Greetings to all distinguished guests, my teachers, and fellow Students. Today we all have gathered on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and on this holy occasion, I have brought a small speech on mahatma gandhi in front of you all.
Today, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we are all gathered here. I would like to thank all of you for giving me this opportunity to present my thoughts about Mahatma Gandhi on his birthday today. The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. Our country pays tribute to him by celebrating his birthday as a national festival. Mahatma Gandhi’s full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi forced the British to kneel many times by following the path of truth and non-violence. The greatness of Gandhiji can be gauged from the fact that today, outside India, he has statues, and names of places in many other countries of the world. International Day of Non-Violence is also celebrated every year on 2 October in honor of his thoughts.
Mahatma Gandhi studied law in London. After getting the degree of a barrister from London, he did not consider it appropriate to become a big officer or lawyer but dedicated his whole life to the country. He always fought for the rights of the people.
Gandhi was a splendid example of tolerance, sacrifice, restraint, and simplicity. He had amazing leadership abilities. In the freedom movement, people filled the jails under his leadership. Movements like his civil disobedience movement, non-cooperation movement, the boycott of foreign clothes, Champaran Satyagraha, Dandi Satyagraha, Dalit movement, Rowlatt Act, Salt Law, and Quit India made the British in trouble and the way to get freedom became easy.
Gandhiji was always against alcohol. Gandhiji wanted that no one should be discriminated on the basis of religion and caste in society. Treat everyone equally. Have respect for women. Everyone should get justice. Gandhiji constantly raised his voice against the evils like untouchability prevalent in Indian society. He made a valuable contribution to the upliftment of the poor Indians. He himself started living in the poor people areas. He made a lot of efforts to give equal status to the untouchable citizens in society.
Gandhiji taught Indians to love indigenous goods. Holi of foreign clothes was lit. As a result, indigenous industries got a boost. Apart from independence, Gandhiji had another dream, Gram Swaraj. He wanted the villages to be self-sufficient. Industries should be strengthened in the village. His dream was fulfilled when the Panchayati Raj system was implemented in the country in 1993.
Friends, on this day we should take a pledge to implement Gandhiji’s thoughts in our lives. Thank you. Jai Hind!
