Bhagat Singh Birth, Childhood and Early Life

Shaheed Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907 AD. It happened in village Banga of district Lyallpur, Chak on 105. Bhagat Singh’s father’s name is S. Kishan Singh and his mother’s name was Vidyavati. His father was also a revolutionary leader. His uncle Ajit Singh was an eminent patriot who started the “Pagri Smabhal Jatta” movement. His family was a family of revolutionaries and patriots.

Bhagat Singh’s Education

On the day Bhagat Singh was born, his father and uncle, who were fighting for the freedom of Mother India, were released from jail and three days later both of their uncles were also released on bail. Hence his grandfather Arjun Singh and grandmother Jaykaur used to call him Bhagan Wala, who later came to be known as Bhagat Singh.

At the age of five, he had his early education at the District Board Primary School in his native village, Banga. When he was eleven years old, his elder brother Jagat Singh, who was studying with him, died suddenly. After this, his entire family moved to live in Nawakot near Lahore. There he started his studies at DAV School in Lahore.

A sense of love and patriotism

At that time, the revolutionary movement was in full swing in the country. The martyrdom of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha had a deep impact on his mind. He was in the National College Lahore during the non-cooperation movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi. Bhagat Singh read the first lesson on patriotism and doing something for the freedom of the country.

1924 Bhagat Singh went to Kanpur. There, he worked as a journalist in a Hindi newspaper called ‘Prat’ published by Mr. Ganesh Sankar Vidyarthi. Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was one of the member of the Garam Dal of Congress. Being in contact with them, Bhagat Singh’s sense of patriotism became stronger. It was here that he met Great Freedom Fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad.

Active role in the freedom of the country

In those days, hot-minded young Indians formed many organizations, such as the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, the Hindustan Republican Army, and the Youth Bharat Sabha. Bhagat Singh was the leader of all these organizations. The Youth Bharat Sabha became very active in 1928 In ‘Simon Commission’ came to India which was opposed by all Indians.

Lala Lajpat Rai was leading the procession taken out against it at Lahore. Lathis Charge was fired at them. Due to this, he was injured very badly, and Lala Ji died. Bhagat Singh decided to avenge the death of Lalaji. Bhagat Singh avenged Lalaji’s death by shooting British police officer Saunders.

Bhagat Singh along with Sukhdev and Rajguru threw bombs in the assembly and also distributed posters. Bhagat Singh intentionally gave the arrest by raising slogans of “Inqilab-zindabad”. Several trials were conducted against him. Finally on March 23, 1931. He was hanged along with his freedom fighter colleagues Rajguru and Sukhdev. He sacrificed himself for mother India by climbing the gallows laughing.

The mausoleums of these three patriots have been built at Hussainiwala near Ferozepur. A state level fair is held here every year on March 23. Special events are also held in Khatkar Kalan, the native village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Your sacrifice can never be forgotten. Indians are proud of patriots like Bhagat Singh. Your name will always be immortal.

I will climb the gallows gladly and show to the world as to how bravely the revolutionaries can sacrifice themselves for the cause. – Bhagat Singh
