Winter Break in Delhi Schools: Delhi government has made adjustments to the winter vacation schedule for schools in the Delhi region. According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi schools will now have a shortened winter break from January 1 to 6, 2024. This change comes after the initial winter vacation was slated to run from January 1 to January 15.
The decision to reduce the winter vacation period stems from the fact that Delhi schools had already observed a portion of their winter break from November 9 to 18. This early break was necessitated by the poor air quality in the region, ensuring the well-being of students. The remaining portion of the winter vacation will now be scheduled for the beginning of the new year.
The DoE has directed all Heads of Schools in Delhi to disseminate this information to all stakeholders, including teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and parents. Furthermore, the DoE has emphasized the importance of schools adhering to a minimum of 220 working days in an academic year, as mandated by the Right to Education Act-2009 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The directive also applies to the consideration of gazetted, restricted, and local holidays in the academic calendar.

In light of these changes, deputy district education officers are advised to ensure strict compliance with these regulations when sanctioning restricted or local holidays for schools within their jurisdiction. Additionally, un-aided recognized schools are required to obtain approval for holidays from their respective management.
This adjustment in the winter vacation schedule aims to strike a balance between ensuring students’ safety and fulfilling the academic requirements of Delhi schools.
