CBSE Latest Circular: As you are aware, the Government of India vide Ministry of Home Affairs notification no.17014/2/2022-IS-VII dated 09.01.2022 has decided to commemorate 26th December as “Veer Baal Diwas” every year to pay homage to the great valour and supreme sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the younger sons of tenth Sikh-Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, on 26th December 1705, at the tender age of 9 and 6 years respectively, in their quest for justice.

To commemorate Veer Baal Diwas on 26th December 2023, all the schools are requested to do the following:

1. Conduct appropriate interactive and participative programs during the run up to the day to inform and educate the students about the contextualised story of the exemplary courage of the Sahibzadas.

Special assemblies dedicated to the theme may be held, short films on Veer Baal Diwas may be shown, stories recounting the valour of the Sahebzadas may be narrated. Students may be encouraged to express their thoughts on the theme across multifarious platforms such as debates, poems, essays, paintings etc.

2. Digital exhibitions may also be set up at schools and programs may be organised. A digital exhibition curated by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India may be printed in appropriate size and displayed at a prominent the school premises. It could also be put on the social media platforms and shared on the whatsapp groups of teachers and students.

3. An interactive quiz is uploaded on MyGov/ My Bharat portals. The students may be encouraged to participate in the quiz. The link for same is https://quiz.mygov.in/quiz/quiz-on-veer-baal-diwas-2023/

4. Suggestive guidelines for commemoration of the event are enclosed for ready reference at Annexure 1. 5. A brief write-up in English and Hindi regarding the Martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh is enclosed at Annexure 2.

SUGGESTIVE GUIDELINES FOR COMMEMORATION OF VEER BAAL DIWAS (26TH DECEMBER 2023)

Aim of Veer Baal Diwas:

To pay homage to the courage of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji, younger sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhs.

Time period to mark commemoration:

Date of Veer Baal Diwas: 26th December, the date on which Sahibzadas attained martyrdom in 1705.

In case the schools are on winter break on the date of the Diwas, some activities including Special Assemblies may be held in the run up to the Day.

Target Stakeholders:

In order to commemorate Veer Baal Diwas on 26th December, 2023 and to facilitate participation of students, a few suggestive low/zero–cost, high visibility activities are given below which can be undertaken by schools as per their suitability.

Objectives of Suggestive Veer Baal Diwas Activities:

To create awareness about the sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji, younger sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji, the tenth Guru of Sikhs.

To enable students to acquire the qualities of sacrifice, courage, steadfastness, confidence, mindfulness, and others as exhibited by the Sahibzadas.

Suggestive Activities on Veer Baal Diwas

1. Awareness Generation Activities.
2. Literary Activities.
3. Art Activities.
4. Ongoing Activities to imbibe the qualities exhibited by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji in the students.

Awareness Generation Activities:

Awareness about the sacrifice and courage of the Sahibzadas can be created using any of the following means: a. Display of digital exhibition on the theme at a prominent place in schools.

b. Showcasing of animated movie on Sahibzadas “Chaar Sahibzaade’ (available in Punjabi, Hindi and English).

c. Narrating the Story of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji to the students addressing the themes of sacrifice, courage, respect and responsibility.

d. Reading of Comic Books on Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji.

e. Inviting Experts in the area to deliver talks.

f. Conducting Special Assemblies wherein the students can be informed about the lives of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji.

2. Literary Activities:

Once the students are aware about the courage and sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji, students may be asked to:

a. Students to be encouraged to participate in interactive quiz being hosted on My Gov/ My Bharat portals in max numbers.

b. Write an essay.

c. Recite or write a Poem on their sacrifice, courage, and other values learnt from their lives.

d. Identify similar acts of courage and narrate it to other students in the class.

e. Create a map of major events in their lives.

f. Create a story board on major events in their lives.

g. Write an inspiring short story about an imaginary character who stood courageously against all challenges and adversities.

h. Express their admiration and gratitude towards Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji through a 1 minute talk.

i. Attempt motivating word games.

j. Identify and write about the values which they learnt from the lives of the Sahibzadas and how they can incorporate them in their own lives.

k. Talk or write about the difficult situation (s) they may come across and what they would do when faced with such situations and way.

3. Art Activities:

Art activities may also be organised for the students once they are quite aware about Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji. Students may be asked /guided to:

a. Create a wall of appreciation on which they can hang Thank You Cards made by them to express their gratitude towards the sacrifice done by the Sahibzadas. The cards can be addressed to Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji.

b. Make Promise Cards wherein they can make a promise to the Sabibzadas. c. Make Sahibzadas Themed New Year Calendar (as the new year will be around).

Culmination of Activities on Veer Baal Diwas

The occasion may be used to honour the brave act exhibited by any of the student (s) of the school.

4. Ongoing Activities to imbibe the qualities exhibited by Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji in the students.

Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji exhibited confidence, steadfastness and courage in the face of tyranny. They were also able to speak up and stand tall against all odds.

In order to make our children confident enough so that they can express themselves and ask questions, speak fearlessly in front of other people /large audience; they can be engaged in such activities in which they are interested and feel confident.

Apart from above qualities, Sahibzadas exhibited the qualities of respecting your parents, standing by your faith, being brave and fearless. Schools can devise such activities which can be integrated across the other curricular activities and which focus on imbibing these qualities in our children.
