The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will soon open a sub-regional office in Agartala, Tripura following concerns over the poor performance of state-run CBSE-affiliated schools in recent board exams. This move comes in response to rising concerns across the state, as only 61% of Class 10 students and 59% of Class 12 students from CBSE-affiliated schools managed to pass their exams.
Why is CBSE Opening an Office?
Until recently, these schools were under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), with Bengali as the primary language of instruction. However, after the BJP came to power in 2018, around 125 state-run schools were converted to Vidyajyoti schools and shifted to CBSE’s English-medium curriculum.
This transformation aimed to raise educational standards, but the recent exam results have raised new questions and concerns among parents, educators, and officials.
What Will the New CBSE Office in Agartala Offer?
The new office will temporarily operate out of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya while the state government finalizes plans to provide land for a permanent facility. Abhijit Samajpati, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) from the Education Department, stated that this office will help strengthen the educational infrastructure in Tripura by offering much-needed support to CBSE schools.
Key Services to be Offered by the CBSE Office
The CBSE Agartala office will provide various services to address both administrative and academic needs, including:
- Admission assistance and subject corrections
- Student record updates and exam center coordination
- Mark sheet corrections and grievance handling
- Teacher training programs to improve educational quality
Additionally, the office will work closely with local educational bodies to ensure smooth exam operations and student development initiatives.
How Will This Benefit Students and Teachers?
With a CBSE office in Tripura, schools in the region will experience faster communication and quicker solutions to administrative issues. This support will be instrumental in addressing challenges faced by CBSE schools in Tripura, enabling teachers and students to focus on academic growth and development.
