Join Eco Club Summer Camps 2024! Empower students with sustainable living practices and environmental education for a greener future.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 underscores the importance of equipping students with essential skills and capabilities to thrive in today’s rapidly changing world. Among these, environmental awareness, water and resource conservation, sanitation, and hygiene stand out as pivotal.

Eco Clubs in schools play a crucial role in instilling these values, encouraging students to engage in meaningful, environmentally friendly activities and projects.

This initiative aims to foster sensitivity and understanding regarding ongoing environmental concerns, promoting the right attitudes and dispositions to address them effectively.

What is the Idea of LiFE?

At COP26 in 2021, India introduced the concept of LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), advocating for a healthy and sustainable way of living rooted in traditions and values of conservation and moderation.

Mission LiFE has since become a global movement, promoting sustainable lifestyles and the mindful use of resources to conserve the environment.

How Can Schools Contribute to Mission LiFE?

As part of the activities of Eco Clubs, schools are encouraged to organize summer camps during the summer vacations under the theme “Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE”. These activities ideally commence on World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5th.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.” Schools can organize week-long camps, dedicating each day to one of the seven themes of Mission LiFE:

  1. Adopt Healthy Lifestyle (Day 1)
  2. Adopt Sustainable Food Systems (Day 2)
  3. Reduce E-Waste (Day 3)
  4. Reduce Waste (Day 4)
  5. Save Energy (Day 5)
  6. Save Water (Day 6)
  7. Say No to Single Use Plastic (Day 7)

What Activities Can Be Conducted During Summer Camps?

Schools can engage students through various activities such as poster-making competitions, painting competitions, and debates. Inviting eminent environmentalists, academicians, and NGOs to participate can enrich these camps, offering valuable insights and expertise.

What Guidelines Must Schools Follow?

While organizing Summer Camps, schools must adhere strictly to the instructions and guidelines provided by local administration and State Government. Ensuring proper arrangements to protect participants and staff from heat waves is essential.

Schools are required to upload a brief report of the Summer Camp activities daily at this link before June 15, 2024. Additionally, registration on this platform is necessary to fill in the required details of the activities.

How Can Schools Encourage Participation?

Schools should disseminate this information among students and teachers, encouraging active participation in the Summer Camps. By engaging students in these activities, schools can play a significant role in promoting environmental education and fostering a generation of environmentally conscious individuals.
