The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced an exciting opportunity for high school students and teachers to participate in the ‘Shadow the Scientist’ (StS) program. This is an initiative by the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California Observatories, Santa Cruz.
This unique ‘Shadow the Scientist’ (StS) program offers a glimpse into the life of scientists and researchers, allowing participants to observe, interact, and learn from professionals in the field of astrophysics.
What is ‘Shadow the Scientist’?
‘Shadow the Scientist’ provides a platform for students aged 15-17 and teachers from 1000 CBSE-affiliated schools to engage in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) experiential learning.
Through virtual sessions, participants will join observing nights at renowned telescopes like the Keck Observatory, Subaru, and Lick Observatory/Shane, facilitated by the faculty and research team of the University of California.
Experience Real Scientific Research
Participants will have the chance to:
- Connect with real scientists and engineers, witnessing their problem-solving skills and learning about their journeys.
- Gain insights into scientific principles and the technical workings of research equipment.
- Experience the thrill of genuine scientific research without alterations or curation.
How to Participate in ‘Shadow the Scientist’
The program is offered to schools on a ‘First Come, First Served’ basis and is completely free of cost. Schools interested in this remarkable learning experience must have high-speed internet connectivity and can sign up by filling out a Google form available at https://forms.gle/FyMDdtw4uwcwMjwE7 by February 29, 2024.
