CBSE Practical Examination Guidelines for 10th and 12th Students in the Compartment Category @cbse.gov.in
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently released comprehensive guidelines regarding the conduct of practice exams for students who have been placed in the Compartment category for the Supplementary Examination, 2023.
The guidelines, which include two categories of students who are required to appear in practical exams during the supplementary examinations, are meant for both Class X and Class XII students.
Detailed Instructions for Class XII Candidates for Supplementary Exam
The CBSE, in its guidelines, stated that a Class XII student would be declared pass in a subject if they secure 33% marks combining both in theory and practical.
However, students who were unable to secure 33% marks in the practical segment during the main examination have been placed in the Compartment category.
These students, marked as “Repeat in Practical” (RP), only need to appear in the practical examination during the Supplementary exams.
Moreover, students who have been placed in the Compartment Category due to a repeat in Theory and Practical Both (RB) shall have to appear in both the practical examination and the theory examination in the Supplementary Examinations.
Specific Rules of Supplementary Exam for Class X Candidates
The rules differ slightly for Class X students. A student in this category will be declared pass in a subject if they secure 33% marks or more, combining both Theory and Internal Assessment.
If a student placed under the Compartment Category was also absent during the Internal Assessment, they will be awarded pro-rata marks in Internal Assessment based on the theory marks awarded in the supplementary examination.
No Internal Assessment will be conducted for such students during the supplementary examination, as this process is carried out throughout the year.
Supplementary Exam 2023 Dates and Venue for the Practical Examinations
The CBSE Practical Examinations are scheduled to be conducted from 6th July 2023 (Thursday) to 20th July 2023 (Thursday). The venue for regular candidates will be their respective schools, while for private candidates, the exams will be held in the Examination Centres designated for theory examinations in the Supplementary exams.
The Practical Examinations shall be conducted from 06” July 2023 (Thursday) to 20” July 2023 (Thursday).
Supplementary Exam Examiner Appointment and Answer Books
The CBSE’s Regional Offices will appoint External Examiners for all students of Class XII. The CBSE practical examination will be conducted solely by the external examiner appointed by the CBSE. For practical answer books, the ones supplied by the Regional Offices are to be used.
Student and Supplementary Examination Centre Guidelines
The students who have to appear in the CBSE Practical exams must contact their schools or examination centres before 6th July 2023 with a copy of their result/mark sheet and admit card.
The schools and examination centres have been instructed to prepare a subject-wise list of all students whose CBSE practical exams are to be conducted.
The Schools and Examination Centres will also upload the marks awarded to the candidates and their photographs on the portal on the same day. The uploaded marks will be considered final, with no further requests for any changes being accepted.
The release of these guidelines and schedules is an essential part of the CBSE’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and efficient examination process for all students. The students are encouraged to follow these guidelines closely and remain informed about any updates or changes from the CBSE.
