Changes in the Bihar 2024 Holiday Calendar
In a noteworthy update, the Bihar Government’s Education Department has made changes to the holiday calendar for the academic year 2024. Unlike previous years, summer vacations are now exclusively designated for students, excluding teachers. However, it’s important to note that certain Hindu holidays, including Hartalika Teej and Jitiya, have been canceled.
Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid) holidays have been extended to three days each. Moreover, significant Hindu festivals such as Makar Sankranti, Rakshabandhan, Saraswati Puja, Janmashtami, Ram Navami, Bhaidooj, and Shivratri are excluded from the revised holiday calendar.

The Bihar Official Holidays Notice specifies that District Magistrates are prohibited from declaring additional leaves beyond the stipulated calendar. Any such announcements, if necessary, require explicit permission from the State Education Ministry. Notably, headmasters and principals of government schools lack the authority to declare holidays beyond the official calendar.
