BharOS is a new indigenous mobile operating system. This operating system has been created by J&K Operations, an incubated firm of IIT Madras. Till now, apart from Apple, almost all other smartphones use the Android operating system.

BharOS operating system will benefit 100 crore smartphone users in India. This will help reduce the dependency on foreign operating systems in smartphones.

Why BharOS is So Special

Technically, BharOS is not much different from Android. A Government of India-funded project, BharOS is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) based operating system. It can be installed on commercial off-the-shelf handsets.

Unlike Android, it doesn’t have default Google apps or services, which means users won’t be forced to choose apps they’re unfamiliar with or don’t trust. BharOS also does not come with any pre-built applications.

With no pre-installed applications, users will be able to download the app of their choice. The institute claims that this will give users more control, freedom, and flexibility to choose apps that meet their needs.

BharOS is more secure than Android and IOS

The developers have said that BharOS is better than both Android and iOS in terms of features and security. Like Android, BharOS also offers “Native Over the Air” (NOTA) updates, which means that software updates will automatically be downloaded and installed on the device.
