CBSE Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and National Education Policy
Educational News: As you may know, the National Education Policy 2020 highlights the significance of language education in schools. It promotes multilingualism to achieve core educational goals. Indian languages, historically, have enriched one another, fostering national unity and harmony. Understanding the essence of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” requires students to immerse in India’s linguistic diversity.
Details of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2023
The Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has directed the observance of “Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav” with the theme, Bhashaye Anek Bhav Ek’. This 75-day event, spanning from 28th September to 11th December 2023, aims at promoting language learning via regional languages and technology. It is designed to culminate on 11th December, the birth anniversary of “Mahakavi Bharati” (Subramania Bharati) – a renowned nationalist Tamil poet and freedom fighter from Tamil Nadu.
Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav Inauguration and Summit
The Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav will commence with a national-level inaugural event in New Delhi on 30.09.2023. Subsequently, a two-day summit titled “Technology and Bhartiya Bhasha” will be conducted between 30th September and 1st October 2023. The grand finale of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav is scheduled on 11th December 2023 in Delhi.

Promotion of Linguistic Diversity
The Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav emphasizes exposing students to various regional languages, aiming to spark interest and promote national integration. To celebrate linguistic diversity, a “Partnership among Schools” initiative will be introduced.
It encourages interactions between paired schools from linguistically diverse regions throughout the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav. Various activities will be organized during these virtual interactions, adhering to the guidelines of the “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” initiative.
Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav and ANUVADINI Tools
The AICTE has developed ANUVADINI, an AI Translation Tool designed to bridge language barriers nationally and globally. Supporting 22 regional Indian and foreign languages, ANUVADINI is in alignment with the Make in India and Atma Nirbhar Bharat campaigns. It is recommended to utilize ANUVADINI extensively during the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav, allowing students to familiarize themselves with diverse Indian languages.
Participation and Monitoring of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav
All school heads are urged to circulate this information, encouraging participation in the 75-day Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav from 28th September to 11th December 2023. A dedicated page on the NCERT Portal will be launched to monitor the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav’s activities, and the link will be shared soon.
