CBSE has announced an important change in the board exam evaluation system.
From 2026, the Board will introduce on-screen evaluation for Class 12 board exams.
Under this system, examiners will check answer sheets digitally on computers.
At the same time, Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be evaluated in the physical format for the 2026 exams.
CBSE conducts board examinations every year in India and 26 other countries.
Nearly 46 lakh students appear in these exams. With this step, CBSE aims to make evaluation more accurate, faster, and easier for teachers.
What Is On-Screen Marking for Class 12 Exams
In on-screen marking, CBSE will scan Class 12 answer books and upload them to a secure digital system. Teachers will check these answer sheets on computer screens instead of using pen and paper.
This method will help avoid totalling mistakes and reduce errors caused by repetitive manual checking. The digital system will also speed up the evaluation process, which may help CBSE declare results faster.
How Teachers Will Benefit from Digital Evaluation
One major advantage of on-screen marking is flexibility for teachers.
Teachers will be able to evaluate answer sheets from their own schools.

Infrastructure Required in Schools
CBSE has asked schools to prepare the required technical setup in advance.
Schools must have:
- A computer lab with a public static IP
- Computers or laptops with Windows 8 or above
- Minimum 4 GB RAM
- Enough free storage space
- Updated internet browsers
- Adobe Reader
- Stable internet connection of at least 2 Mbps
- Uninterrupted power supply
These requirements are already part of CBSE affiliation by-laws.
Support and Training by CBSE
CBSE has assured full support to schools and teachers. Teachers with OASIS IDs will get access to the system to practice and understand the process. CBSE will conduct dry runs, training sessions, and provide instructional videos.
The Board will also set up a dedicated call centre to solve technical issues.
